Response of Cellulose Decomposition and Nodulation in Soils Amended with Biochar for Peri-Urban Agriculture

چکیده
Peri-urban agriculture is becoming a potential step to promote sustainable and environmental food production systems. Our aim was study the effect of biochar application at various rates on faba bean growth, cellulose decomposition, nodulation, selected enzyme activities associated with carbon cycling in clay sandy soils collected from peri-urban agricultural areas near city El-Minia, Egypt. To achieve this aim, incubation pot experiments were conducted under controlled greenhouse conditions using soil. Among studied treatments, rate 3 kg/sq·m most effective soil amendment followed by 2 kg/sq·m. At 60 days incubation, count cellulose-decomposing microorganisms reached high level both soil, then decreased after 90 days, regardless rate. The response cellulose-decomposer ratio (Fcd/Bcd) positively correlated time. obtained results showed significant increases fresh dry weight compared In any case, use as enhanced health, microbial communities, increased microorganisms, thus improving nodulation growth.

Atrazine leaching from biochar-amended soils.
The herbicide atrazine is used extensively throughout the United States, and is a widespread groundwater and surface water contaminant. Biochar has been shown to strongly sorb organic compounds and could be used to reduce atrazine leaching. We used lab and field experiments to determine biochar impacts on atrazine leaching under increasingly heterogeneous soil conditions. Application of pine ch...

The effective management of sewage sludge materials in an environmentally and economically acceptable way is through the pyrolytic conversion of the sludge to biochar and its use for agricultural purposes. The aims of this work were: (1) to assess the effect of biochar prepared from sewage sludge at two different temperatures (350 ºC and 650 ºC) on the adsorption/desorptio...

The incorporation of biochar into soils has been proposed as a means to sequester carbon from the atmosphere. An added environmental benefit is that biochar has been shown to increase soil retention of agrochemicals, and recent research has indicated that biochar may be effective in increasing soil retention of bacteria. In this study we investigate the transport behavior of Escherichia coli O1...
